Rev. Lan Weihan, Adopted Chinese son of Swedish Missionary, Dies at 98 in Inner Mongolia

Born in 1919, Rev. Lan Weihan, an orphan adopted by a missionary, died at the age of 98 on April 16, 2016,, Baotou, Inner Mongolia. The local church held the memorial service for Rev. Lan on April 21.

Abandoned by his biological parents, Rev. Lan was adopted by a Swedish missionary who evangelized in Baitou. Growing up in the church. He went to a church school and graduated from Tianjin Theological Seminary. Afterwards, he became one of the first batch of graduates of Nanjing Lingxiu Theological Seminary, founded by Rev. Jia Yuming.

During the Cultural Revolution, he refused to deny his Christian faith in persecution, suffering a lot. In the 1980s, he resumed his service in the church and served in the regions covering Baitou, Hohhot and the towns between them.

During his lifetime, he arranged the preaching training programs for church volunteers and donated continuously to the orphans in Wenchuan and Yushu for seven or eight years, saying that "I'm an orphan. I love the orphans in the earthquake areas because of God."
