The 78-year-old man, Luo Shanxue, who is the first in China to publicly acknowledge that he is the son of a comfort woman, remains critically ill after receiving medical assistance.

The latest developments about Luo Shanxue who has been hospitalized due to the knee problem since late October were learned from volunteers in Wuhan.

On the early morning of November 8th, the elderly man was sent to his registered residence in Guilin, Guangxi after the treatment in Wuhan for about half a month,  but has not yet regained consciousness.

Due to the inability of volunteers and the director of the nursing home to afford the high treatment costs at a hospital in Wuhan (lower reimbursement rates for medical treatment outside the local area), and with the patient's condition relatively stable, both the doctors and the local government in Guangxi recommended sending him back for local treatment. This way, on the one hand, the reimbursement rate would be higher, significantly easing the economic burden, and on the other hand, relevant institutions stated that he could get better assistance after returning locally.

Therefore, after the doctors at Wuhan Union Hospital issued a discharge diagnosis certificate, two volunteers accompanied the ambulance from the hospital on November 7th to escort Mr. Luo back to Guilin, Guangxi. In the early morning of November 8th, the elderly man arrived at Guilin People's Hospital. Because the hospital did not have beds in the rehabilitation department, they could only treat the elderly man as an emergency case, waiting for a bed to be arranged during the day. After several communications, local police intervened and assisted the hospital in receiving the elderly man in the absence of family members.

After learning the news, volunteers in Guangxi purchased the elderly man's daily necessities at the nurses' request in the afternoon.

Volunteers from Wuhan, upon returning to the city, also closely monitored the elderly man's condition. It has been learned that Mr. Luo is receiving treatment in the ICU with the government-provided green channel service and has not yet regained consciousness.

The elderly man's nephew has been waiting in a hotel close to the hospital, ready to hear from the doctor at any time in the hopes that the elderly man will survive the danger and recover as soon as possible.
