On June 18, 2019, Dr Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), visited Shanghai Christian Council & Municipal Three -Self Association.
According to Shanghai Christianity, he briefed the two presidents on his visit to China. In recent years, because of China's national strength and the increase in influence of the Chinese church, the WWC attaches great importance to cooperation with Chinese Christian ministry. This year the WCC's "Faith and Education Governance" committee meeting was held in Nanjing, China. After the meeting, they visited Shanghai so that the WCC was able to get to know the development of the Shanghai Church.
Reverend Witt fondly recalled his interaction with the faculty at the East China Seminary during a visit to Shanghai last year. During the visit, Pastor Xu Yulan, chairman of the Committee of the Three Self-Patriotic Movement in Shanghai, and Pastor Geng, chairman of the Shanghai Christian Education Committee, also shared with Pastor Witt recent developments in the Shanghai Church and, at the request of Pastor Witt, highlighted the current state of the ministry of the Shanghai Church in the fields of elder care, foreign-related worship and environmental protection.
Reverend Witt said that the global Church is impressed with the development of the Chinese Church and although Christians live in different countries with different cultural environments, it is worth it for the global Church to learn from the Chinese Church in regards to unity and guidance in faith activities, etc .
