Beijing Megachurch Suspends In-Person Services Amid COVID-19 Rebounds

A Beijing church announced the recent suspension of its onsite gatherings amid rising pandemic infections.

On its official WeChat account on Wednesday, Fengtai Church released a notice, saying that the church would be locked down from January 23 till further notice. Churchgoers are able to attend the online Sunday services and pray for COVID-19 to come to an end.

With the construction beginning in 2004, the church was dedicated two days before Christmas Eve in 2006, covering a floor area of 2390 square meters (0.59 acre) and a construction area of 7000 square meters (1.73 acres).

Chinese mainland on January 19 found 87 new coronavirus cases, of which 55 were domestically transmitted, China Daily reported on Wednesday.
