China Is Expecting A Lot Of Gold Medals With The Big Number Of Chinese Athletes in Rio Olympics

There will be around 416 athletes, including 35 Olympic champions from China in the upcoming Rio Olympic Games.

The announcement was made at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Senior Communist Party of Chine Leader Liu Yunshan during a meeting attended by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong, told the the Rio-bound athletes and coaches to spread the Olympic spirit of unity, friendship and progress at the Games.

 "Plant the seeds of friendship and become Chinese people's ambassadors", Liu added.

The delegation includes 160 men athletes and 256 women competing for 210 events over 26 sports at the Games which will open on Aug. 5 in Rio de Janeiro.

"This is the largest ever Olympic delegation China has sent overseas," said Cai Zhenhua,deputy director of China's General Administration of Sport, adding that the delegation has711 members including 29 foreign coaches.

China is expecting a lot of gold medals from the conventionally strong sports such as table tennis, badminton, gymnastics, weightlifting, shooting and driving.

On the other hand, Olympic and world freestyle champion Sun Yang, is considered as one of the high-profile athletes in the Chinese legion who is to defend his 1,500 title in Rio; also with the news sensation Ning Zetao who became the first Asian to ever win the 100m freestyle at the world championships held in Kazan last year.

"I feel I am in good shape now," said Ning, 23. "I am honored to represent China."

China is also hoping to make it in athletics following the victory at last year's world championships at the "Bird's Nest" national stadium in Beijing.

"We have high expectations for these Games, especially after the Beijing athletics worldchampionships. The results at the worlds give us confidence," said high jumper Wang Yuwho is a graduate school student at China's elite Tsinghua University.
