On October 17, 2017, the seminar on the major project "religious studies and database construction," sponsored by the National Social Science Fund was jointly hosted by the Institute of World Religions of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the department of history of Shanghai University in Shanghai.

Zhuo Xinping, director of the Institute of World Religions of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and president of the Association for the Study of Religion, gave a keynote speech entitled "History Based on Data", according to the Chinese Religion Academic Network.

The research group of the project "Study on Chinese Religions and Database Construction (1850-1949)" shared the project progress and the subprojects talked about the studies on Christianity, Catholicism, religious art, and religious theories and the corresponding database construction.

Following this, another research team of the project "Chinese Christian Literature Reorganization & Research Database" gave an introduction of its work. Professor Tao Yafei from the department of history of Shanghai University summarized the project progress, research, and work prospect in a speech.

Topics on religious publishing and database construction, humanity study and database construction, and the exploitation of Chinese material in database and technical issues in Chinese Christian literature databases were discussed.
