On November 20, 2019, the International Conference on the Bible and the Belt and Road Initiative kicked off at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.

This came as the world’s largest Bible printing company celebrated the 200 million production of Bibles in the middle of this month, according to China Christian Council & Three-Self Patriotic Movement (CCC&TSPM).

As this year marks the centenary of the Chinese Union Version Bible, Gu Mengfei, secretary general of TSPM, said that the Chinese church would explore friendly exchanges with countries in the "Belt and Road Initiative” and promote “South to South” communication and cooperation within the church. Other speakers included Bishop John Chew Hiang Chea and other representatives from the British and foreign Bible Societies and the United Bible Society China Partnership, as well as local church leaders, officials, and scholars.

About 120 local and foreign participants from the churches and academia joined the three-day conference.
