The Global Assembly of Pastors for Finishing the Task holds online forum from October 13 to 15, featuring how to mobilize churches to cover 5,000 unengaged and unreached people groups

To complete the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, Finishing the Task (FTT) is a movement of 1,600 churches and organizations who have come together to reach the Unengaged, Unreached People Groups (UUPGs). These are people groups who have no access to a Bible, believers, or a body of Christ and have less than 0.1% evangelical believers.

Its official website introduces the movement, “The network’s history dates back to the 2000 Lausanne Conference in Amsterdam where a key group of mission leaders began a strategic relationship for the purpose of seeing every people group engaged with sustainable church planting initiatives.”

Supposed to be conducted in Korea’s Incheon Pilgrim, the assembly went virtual due to COVID-19. Korean pastors and missionaries were able to gather in person.

Last year, the churches and agencies who attended the Finishing the Task conference adopted all the groups in the world and mostly deployed to reach the “unengaged.”

“Now we have to move FTT 2.0, which is mobilization for all those of Bible Body of Christ, believer in these tribes and everywhere else. So what happened last year was not the end. It was the end of the beginning. FFT 2.0 was to get every tribe adopted by some group(s),” Rick Warren, director of FFT and founding pastor of Saddleback Church, said at the opening.

The three-day 2020 GAP for FTT aim is to envision, equip and empower church pastors to cover 5,000 UUPGs with the gospel. The conference includes plenary talks, specific addresses, and electives.

Luis Bush, who introduced the 10/40 Window concept at the Lausanne II conference in Manila in 1989, gave a lecture entitled “Transform the World”. Goong Kim, copresident of the assembly and founder of Maranatha Vision Church (MVC) in the San Francisco Bay Area, shared a speech on holistic partnership.

In addition, Ying Kai, executive director of T4T Global missions, talked about the practice of the Disciple Making Movement (DMM) and Church Planting Movement (CPM) in China. Pastor Pankaj Godgate, who formed the Assembly of New Life Mission Church, gave a report of DMM/CPM practices in India. Youssef Ourahmane, who leads Algerians4 Missions, which trains locals to share the Gospel in Algeria and beyond, is vice president of the Alliance of Evangelical Church in Algeria. He presented a lecture on the same practice in the Arab world. Based on his training experiences with DMM/CPM approaches since he began to work among unengaged people groups in south China in 1991, Dr. Curtis Sergean who runs a disciple-making and missions training center, shared the global best practices.
