Chengdu Churches Close Two Weeks After Recording COVID-19 Cases

Several churches in Chengdu have announced temporary closures as new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the city.

According to the Chengdu Municipal Health Commission of Sichuan Province, five new local cases, including one asymptomatic infected person, were confirmed between 9 p.m. on 27th of July to 6 p.m. on 28th of July. Five of them were people returning to Chengdu from Zhangjiajie, and one associated case. As of 3 pm on 28th of July, two areas in Chengdu have been upgraded to medium risk areas, namely Xi'an, Youpin Road, Guanghua Street, Qingyang District, and Yasongju, Capital City, Shiyang Street, High-tech Zone, Chengdu.

Enguang Church, Guangyin Church and Shangxiang Church in Chengdu successively issued notices and decided to suspend the opening of their churches to the outside world as well as religious gatherings from the day of the announcement. At the same time, the church called on the majority of believers to not believe or spread rumors, and to cooperate with the epidemic prevention and control work. The time of resumption of the church would be subsequently announced.
