Churches in two cities of China's eastern Fujian Province have been closed early this week amid a new round of coronavirus.

According to the Shenzhen Health Commission, the Fujian government said in a press conference on Tuesday that nucleic acid testing began to be conducted for all people in the cities of Putian and Xiamen. From September 10 to 14, the province reported a total of 139 local positive cases, including 120 confirmed cases of coronavirus (75 in Putian, 12 in Quanzhou, and the rest in Xiamen), and 19 asymptomatic carriers all in Putian.

This Monday, Xiamen CC&TSPM announced the implementation of "double suspensions", which refers to "closing religious activity sites and suspending religious group gatherings", followed by announcements of halts to in-person services from New District Church, Zhushu Church, and Trinity Church in Xiamen.

In accordance with the requirement of Quanzhou Municipal CC&TSPM on September 13, Quannan Church in Quanzhou, Fujian, on Tuesday announced the suspension of Sunday services and all gatherings from Monday to Friday till further notice. The church also reminded its members to attend online worship services and abide by the requirements on COVID-19 control and prevention.
