Due to a surge of COVID-19 cases, churches in Jiangsu and Guangdong announced the suspension of in-person services in early January.

Shenzhen Church in Guangdong released a notice last Friday, saying that from that day forth, Shenzhen Church, Heping Church, and Luohu Church would start to implement the measure of "double suspension", which refers to suspending the opening of places of worship and group religious activities.

According to the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, two positive cases were found during a routine screening of key workers on January 7.

On their official WeChat account on January 8, Xuande Church and Gospel Church in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, stated that they would host gatherings virtually starting from the next day till further notice, following the guidelines of pandemic prevention and control.
