Churches in Gansu, Shanghai Suspend In-Person Gatherings

Many churches in Gansu Province and Shanghai have suspended in-person gatherings.

On Tuesday, Lanzhou Municipal CC&TSPM issued a notice on its public WeChat account, saying that all churches in Lanzhou City would implement the "double suspension" measures from March 7, which refers to suspending the opening of places of worship and group religious gatherings.

From 14:00 to 24:00 on March 7, Gansu Province found four local confirmed COVID-19 cases (three in Lanzhou), one asymptomatic COVID-19 case, and seven imported COVID-19 cases. According to the Health Commission of the Gansu Province, as of 24:00 on March 7, a total of 22 local COVID-19 cases were detected in this round of record.

On March 7, Grace of the God Church in Shanghai Pudong New Area announced the suspensions of this week's prayer meeting and youth gathering.

Next day, Xinjing Church in Shanghai issued a notice that due to the need for pandemic prevention and control, the maximum number of Sunday worshippers will be limited to 30% of the capacity of the place starting from March 13.

On the same day, Transfiguration Church in Qingpu District, Shanghai, issued a notice that it would cease all in-person gatherings from that day on. During the suspension, the content of the church’s Sunday worship will be pushed on the WeChat account at 8 am on Sunday.

The Shanghai Municipal Health Commission reported on Wednesday that on March 8  there were three new local confirmed COVID-19 cases, 62 new local asymptomatic COVID-19 cases, 26 new imported COVID-19 cases, and ten new imported asymptomatic COVID-19 cases.
