A century-old church in China’s northern Tianjin City held a ceremony to launch a reconstruction project.

Tianjin CC&TSPM held the commencement ceremony for the reconstruction and extension project of Cangmenkou Church, CCC&TSPM reported.

After giving a sermon during the thanksgiving service, Rev. Mao Yajun, chairman and president of Tianjin CC&TSPM, delivered a speech stating that the church has witnessed the 100-year-long history of Christianity as well as the Chinese Church's three-self course of self-preaching, self-governing and self-supporting. During the renovations, the congregation would a good job of protecting cultural relics while collecting and sorting documents.

The project will retain the church’s ancient and original Chinese architectural style while modernizing the office buildings. According to the design plan, an area will be set aside as a patriotism education display to demonstrate the century-long history of the Tianjin church and its achievements from promoting the sinicization of Christianity.
