Not even a single Chinese film is competing for 69th Cannes International Festival, especially in the Palm d'Or, one of the highest honors films. However, that fact did not stopped Chinese stars such as world-famous actress Gong Li to leave footprints on the Cannes red carpet.

"Memoirs of a Geisha" actress said she was disappointed knowing the absence of Chinese films at this year for Cannes festival.

Gong, who was known for her straightforward attitude, believe that is a sign of an industry that cares too much about the dollar sign.

"Of course this is about money. We need to tell everyone that a movie is not merely for entertainment. It might leave you with something much deeper for your soul. It's not just for laughs, not just for jokes. It's more than that. There's not a lot of people talking about that in China right now," she said.

Gong advices the young actors who are frequent in the Cannes festival saying "see more films and love your job more from deep under. If you go off topic (referring to actresses only showing up to be photographed in international media), you've come for nothing, and that's a pity."

The 50-year-old actress is a regular at Cannes festival and was even invited as one of the sponsors for the festival.
