"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

As we grow older, we start to ponder on how prayer really works, and as a result, oftentimes we forget to see that we have a God who is always willing to give us what our heart's desire is.

Prayer is a six-letter-word, but it weighs a lot more than that. For starters, there are instances in the Bible where the power of prayer has been manifested.

Of course, prayer won't be powerful if it wasn't for God. God is the one who answers prayer.

In the Old Testament, the story of Samuel is a good example on how prayer works.

Samuel is known to be a wise leader of the Israelites. And as we read further in his story, we will notice how Samuel interceded for God's people as they faced trouble, and strengthened his resolve to pray for the one he loves.

The Israelites faced the threat of the Philistines, who had previously defeated them when God's people didn't trust in Him (see 1 Samuel 4).

After repenting of their sins, they heard that the Philistines were about to attack. This time, however, they asked Samuel to continue praying for them (7:8), and the Lord answered clearly by throwing their enemy into confusion (v. 10). Though the Philistines may have been mightier than the Israelites, the Lord was the strongest of them all.

In conclusion, there will be times where we will be hurt over the challenges that our loved ones are facing, and being afraid of the situation won't change a thing, we may be tempted to believe that the Lord will not act. But we should never underestimate the power of prayer, for our loving God hears our pleas.

Though we don't know how He will move in response to our petitions, but God moves in mysterious ways.  To add to that, we must remember that as our Father He longs for us to embrace His love and to trust in His faithfulness.

As the song goes "In my moments of Fear, though every pain every tear, there's a God who's been Faithful to me."

-He's been faithful
