Christians are familiar with Good Friday and even Easter Sunday. While some already know it but others did not know what it means on Thursday before Sunday of the Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before easter. This is when Jesus celebrated his final Passover together with His disciples. He displayed extraordinary humility by washing His disciples' feet and commanding them of doing the same thing to others.

What is Maunday Thursday's meaning?

The mandate of Christ to His disciples is celebrated in Maundy Thursday. The word "maundy" is a short term from Latin which means "command."

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34).

What is the new commandment?

The new commandment is love. Jesus sacrified His own life for us. By hanging on the cross and accepting the cruelty of humans, Jesus displayed great love towards us. God loved us even though we are great sinners. He gift His own son for us. He let His own son suffer just to diminish the sins that are weighing as down.

"For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works." (Titus 2:11-14)
