On November 9, Beijing Chongwenmen Church hosted the launch ceremony of its 155th anniversary celebration, themed "Eternal Glory," along with a concert featuring original Sinicized Christian hymns and sacred music, marking the beginning of a series of commemorative events.

According to the church, Rev. Li Yonghong, vice chairperson of Beijing TSPM and senior pastor of Zhushikou Church, shared in her address that Chongwenmen Church held a significant place in her spiritual journey, being closely connected to her baptism, theological training, wedding, and ordination. She noted that over the past 155 years, the church has inspired, nurtured, and witnessed the spiritual growth of countless believers. Rev. Li expressed her hope that Chongwenmen Church would continue to illuminate and comfort more souls with the light of faith in the future.

Rev. Liu Cuimin, president of Beijing CC and senior pastor of Chongwenmen Church, reviewed the church's history and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support of authorities at all levels, as well as for the united prayers, offerings, and service of believers. She emphasized that the church would remain steadfast in its pure faith, committed to building a healthy and loving faith community, and encouraged the congregation to engage in holy work with firm faith so that faith may take root and love may bear fruit.

In her sermon titled "The Way We Walk with the Lord," Rev. Du Fengying reflected on the cost and choices of following Christ, the meaning of self-denial and bearing the cross, and the promise of life through discipleship. She urged church co-workers to persevere, drawing strength from the faith of those who came before them, and to become examples for those who follow.

The subsequent recital of original hymns and sacred music featured 11 original compositions in diverse styles, opening with a performance of "The Highest Heavens with Deep Reverence Adore"—a Nestorian hymn from the Tang Dynasty. These works not only conveyed profound spiritual meaning but also reflected the creative exploration and achievements in the Sinicization of Christian music.

According to reports, the "Eternal Glory" series of celebrations will take place at Chongwenmen Church from November 9 to 16, including a photo exhibition, the sacred drama "Where to Go," several themed revival meetings, music sharing sessions for youth and workplace fellowships, a "Celebrating the Birthday Together" gala, and a closing thanksgiving service. Through the integration of faith and art, these events continue to commemorate the 155-year journey of grace of Chongwenmen Church.

Chongwenmen Church in Beijing, originally named "Asbury Church," was founded in 1870 as the first church established by the American Methodist Episcopal Church in North China. With the growth of its congregation, the church underwent several expansions and reconstructions over time. In 1982, it resumed services and was renamed "Chongwenmen Church." Recognized for its historical significance and architectural value, the church has been designated a national key cultural heritage site. As one of the oldest Protestant churches in Beijing, it has received notable visitors, including former U.S. Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton, as well as renowned evangelist Billy Graham, and is widely respected both domestically and internationally.
