Sichuan Theological Seminary marked its 40th anniversary, reflecting on four decades of contributions to Christianity in Southwest China and anticipating its future.
According to the provincial CC&TSPM, the 40th anniversary celebration of Sichuan Theological Seminary occurred on October 24 at the seminary and Chengdu Enguang Church, with the attendance of over 260 people, including representatives from CCC&TSPM, Nanjing Union Theological Seminary, and the CC&TSPMs of Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan Provinces, and Chongqing City, as well as alumni, faculty, and students of the seminary.
During the celebration, Rev. Rao Jianhua, chairperson of the provincial TSPM and president of the provincial seminary, reflected on the seminary's development and operations. Over the past 40 years, the seminary has cultivated 1,018 theological graduates, contributing to gospel outreach, pastoral leadership, and the continuation of faith in the Southwest region of China.
Rev. Geng Weizhong, vice president of the CCC, congratulated Sichuan Theological Seminary on its 40th anniversary with expectations for the school's future. He hoped the seminary would continue training well-qualified pastors while improving its teaching quality to cultivate the "dual talent" (individuals proficient in both Christian doctrine and Chinese traditional culture). He also emphasized the sinicization of Christianity as a historical mission and encouraged innovations in teaching practices and the development of theological construction.
On the same day, a series of events were held to commemorate the seminary's 40th birthday, including a themed exhibition, a seminar on the sinicization of theological education, a thanksgiving concert, and an alumni reunion.
