In response to the heightened risk of dengue fever and chikungunya fever across South China, local churches have initiated mosquito control efforts to support the prevention and management of mosquito-borne diseases, safeguarding the health and well-being of their congregations and local communities.
In Foshan, Guangdong, multiple churches have undertaken various prevention and control measures. Sanshui District's TSPM reported that several local churches are engaged in mosquito prevention campaigns, environmental sanitation, and material donations. Volunteers organized by the district TSPM have been conducting door-to-door visits to raise awareness on mosquito control. Liuhe Church and Southwest Gospel Church hosted training sessions on prevention and control, with the latter also implementing regular cleaning and disinfection of church premises. Additionally, Lubao Church mobilized volunteers to deliver meals and donated protective gloves to frontline workers.
Similarly, churches in Guangzhou have intensified their mosquito control initiatives. Guangxiao Church, Savior Church, and Panyu Church have each carried out thorough disinfection, environmental inspections, and public education efforts. Guangxiao Church focused on clearing debris and removing potential mosquito breeding sites while promoting prevention messages through posters and electronic displays. Savior Church formed a dedicated team to coordinate with epidemic prevention authorities and enhance public awareness campaigns. Panyu Church concentrated on cleaning concealed areas, employing fogging treatments, distributing mosquito repellent, and establishing a routine inspection system.
Moreover, Longdu Church in Zhongshan, Guangdong, led an environmental cleanup on July 30, clearing 200 square meters of weeds and disinfecting 1,200 square meters of surrounding areas.
